Free Things to Do with Kids in Fort Worth
What’s free every single day?
The Fort Worth Herd cattle drive — the world’s only twice-daily longhorn drive, 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Stockyards, ~8 minutes, genuinely free. Best viewing in front of the Livestock Exchange Building; in summer do the 11:30. The steers are viewable in their pens before and after.
The Amon Carter Museum is always free — including special exhibitions — with free parking, free stroller loans, and sketchpads welcome. The Kimbell’s permanent collection is always free (Monets and Caravaggios, free, forever). The Sid Richardson Museum downtown: also always free.

Where can kids get wet for free?
City of Fort Worth spraygrounds are free and run through the end of September. They close intermittently for maintenance — check with Parks & Rec (817-392-5700) before driving. South Euless Park’s splash pad (dumping bucket, geysers) is free through Sept 30. And Airfield Falls — Tarrant County’s largest natural waterfall — is a free, flat 0.4-mile walk with creek wading below the falls. Go before 10 a.m., bring water shoes.
What about free nature and outdoors?
- Trinity Park + duck pond + playgrounds along the river (the miniature train costs money; the park doesn’t)
- Trinity Trails — 100+ miles; the Clearfork stretch has the stroller-and-coffee scene
- Airfield Falls Conservation Park (above) — butterfly garden at the trailhead
- Fort Worth Nature Center is nearly free (a few dollars) — 3,600 acres, bison herd, boardwalks
Is the Stockyards free beyond the cattle drive?
Yes — the district itself is the show: brick streets, drovers on horseback, the maze and petting corral cost a few dollars but wandering costs nothing. Stockyards Championship Rodeo is ticketed, but kids under 12 can sign up at the door for the free calf scramble if you do go.
