Tarrant County School Calendars 2026–27: Every District, One Page
August 2026 — first days of school
Compiled July 20, 2026. Every date verified against the district’s official published 2026–27 calendar (PDF or district announcement). Boards occasionally amend calendars after adoption — Fort Worth ISD already did this year — so re-check the district PDF before booking travel around the margins.
The one-line headline: every district below takes Spring Break the same week — March 15–19, 2027 — and Thanksgiving Break the same week, November 23–27, 2026.

Winter break at a glance: every district is closed at minimum Dec 21, 2026 – Jan 1, 2027. Students return: Jan 5 (FWISD, HEB, EMS, Burleson) · Jan 6 (Crowley, Northwest, Birdville, Arlington, Aledo, GCISD) · Jan 7 (Keller, Mansfield — longest break). GCISD’s break starts earliest (Dec 18).
District-by-district quirks worth knowing
- Fort Worth ISD — the amended calendar moved the first day to Aug 10 and the last day up to May 21. FWISD runs four calendar versions (Traditional, Early College, ADSY — some elementaries run into June — and Intersession); confirm which one your campus follows at fwisd.org/calendar. Fall break Oct 8–12.
- Keller ISD — full fall-break week Oct 12–16; Election Day off; calendar banks minutes so up to two bad-weather days need no makeup. Graduations May 30 at Dickies Arena.
- Northwest ISD — the Monday after spring break is also off (10-day break for students). NISD plans two years out — 2027–28 is already published.
- Eagle Mountain-Saginaw — latest start in the county (Aug 13).
- Crowley ISD — high schools early-release a day before everyone else at semester ends; 5-day student weekend Oct 9–13.
- Arlington ISD — parent-conference days (no students) Oct 9 and Feb 12.
- HEB ISD — “Election Week Break” Nov 2–3; two-day Presidents’ Day break Feb 15–16.
- Grapevine-Colleyville — earliest winter-break start (Dec 18); Nov 2–3 off because campuses are polling sites; a bonus Apr 30 holiday to break up the Easter-to-summer slog.
- Birdville — two parent-conference days (Nov 3, Feb 11 — now required by state law); Mar 12 tacks onto spring break.
- Mansfield — earliest finish (May 20) and the longest winter break (students return Jan 7). An A/B calendar variant exists for some programs.
- Aledo — the leanest calendar around (164 instructional days) with near-monthly long weekends: Sep 4, Oct 12–16 (full fall break), Nov 2, Nov 20, Feb 15, Mar 12, Apr 19.
- Burleson — early release at the end of every six-weeks grading period: Sep 18, Oct 30, Dec 18, Feb 12, Apr 2, May 20.

Kindergarten registration: what you actually need
Age rule: eligible if your child is 5 on or before September 1, 2026.
Districts typically require (per TEA):
- Birth certificate (schools must enroll your child and give you 30 days to produce it if you don’t have it handy)
- Immunization records validated by a physician or public health official
- Proof of residency — current lease/mortgage or a utility bill (~30 days old) in your name
- Your photo ID
- Social Security card is often requested but not required — the district assigns an alternate ID if you decline
All 12 districts run online pre-registration through their enrollment portals. Kinder roundups happen in spring, but districts enroll year-round — with school starting Aug 10–13, do it now.
Find your school by address: every district has an attendance-zone locator (search “[district] find my school”), or use TEA’s txschools.gov. Watch out: city limits and district boundaries don’t match — large parts of the city of Fort Worth are zoned to Keller, Northwest, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw, and Crowley ISDs.
Immunization requirements & the deadline
Verified against the official DSHS 2026–27 minimum requirements:
Kindergarten entry: DTaP 5 doses · Polio 4 · MMR 2 · Hep B 3 · Varicella 2 (documented chickenpox history accepted) · Hep A 2.
The deadline is the first day of attendance — Aug 10–13 depending on your district. A student without records on file can be excluded from class. Provisional enrollment is possible with at least one dose of each vaccine (reviewed every 30 days). Texas allows medical exemptions and conscientious exemptions via the official DSHS affidavit (details).
Practical note: pediatrician and pharmacy schedules jam the first two weeks of August. Tarrant County Public Health and district back-to-school events run low-cost immunization clinics late July–early August — and the same crunch applies to back-to-school dental cleanings, so book both in July.
